Bulls fans might not want to read this one...
In the 2014 draft, the Chicago Bulls traded away 16th pick (Jusuf Nurkic), 19th pick (Gary Harris) and a 2015 second-rounder (Sir’Dominic Pointer) in return for 11th pick (Doug McDermott) and Anthony Randolph. Randolph was then traded to the Magic, along with two future second-round picks (Tyler Harvey and Jake Layman) and cash, in return for the draft rights to Milovan Raković, who has never come to the NBA.
To sum up so far, they traded away Gary Harris, Jusuf Nurkic, three second-rounders and cash in return for Doug McDermott and Milovan Raković. Not looking good… but wait, there’s more!
Doug McDermott was then traded to the Thunder, along with Taj Gibson and a 2018 second-rounder, in return for Cameron Payne, Anthony Morrow and Joffrey Lauvergne. Lauvergne left in free agency and Morrow is an unrestricted free agent who barely got on the court as a Bull. Payne played 11 games for the Bulls, averaging 4.9 points, 1.4 assists and 1.2 turnovers on 33.3% shooting. As a rare third-year player in Summer League, Payne has now played two games in Las Vegas, and shown he has no capacity to outperform rookies, sophomores and undrafted players, averaging 11.5 points, 2.5 assists and 3.5 turnovers on 34.6% shooting in 28.5 minutes.
To recap even further, the Bulls turned Gary Harris, Jusuf Nurkic, Taj Gibson, Doug McDermott, four second-round picks and cash for Cameron Payne, Milovan Raković and Anthony Morrow (if he gets re-signed). You’ve got to hand it to GarPax, they really know how to get fleeced.
