Football fans will be very excited to hear about plans for a new World Cup tournament consisting of legendary former footballers. The tournament is set to be held in Mexico in 2017, according to ESPN.
At this stage it is assumed that it will be called the Legends World Cup. We can also assume that the title will be missing an apostrophe in the same manner that the Champions League is.
An excerpt from the ESPN article reads: ‘The likely event venues would be Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey and is expected to have 12 teams, six European, Holland, Germany, Italy, Spain, France and England; four Americans Mexico, United States, Brazil and Argentina; African, South Africa; and an Asian, Japan.’
Former greats like Zinedine Zidane (43) and Michael Ballack (39) are expected to play in the tournament. All players will be between 35 and 45 years old. Matches will be 60 minutes long and there will be unlimited substitutions.
Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to various Mexican foundations.
Further details of the exciting initiative will be revealed in January 2016.
