Time bi Savez mogao ucjenivati klubove zabranom registra i sprijecio odlazak mladih barem do 21g.

Bosnia U18 Team Recap!

The team got off to a rough start long before the games even began. Mega prospect Tarik Biberovic, who just won MVP of the NBA's Basketball Without Borders Camp in Belgrade announced he was going to play for Turkey in the future after moving to Fenerbache. Losing your most talented player is a daunting task no matter the circumstances. The next hurdle was the loss of Jusuf Sehic, a talented forward from Canada who would have been a major impact player for the club and possibly a starter for the team. The third and most likely death blow to the team was the loss of Kenan Kamenjas the second best prospect of his generation in BiH. He was kicked off the team due to maturity and leadership issues he had during training. When you lose your top two players and three of your top 6 or 7 your fate is sealed and it was demoralizing loss losing Kamenjas right before the tournament began.

The team was also missing some other top prospects who didn't receive invites or didn't join the team Dejan Marjanac and Jakov Kukic who both play High School in the US and are highly regarded never received invites. Nikola Djakovic, Robert Saldo, Semir Keric, Amar Tiganj and Luka Vukovic where a few of the other surprising names left off the U18 team this year.

Adding those losses to the already major blow of losing Jure Planincic to Croatia and Dalibor Ilic to Serbia and the refusal to identify Altin Islamovic as a possible prospect for BiH meant the team was already missing its two best teams. For a country of less than four million to bring your third squad to an international tournament is a recipe for disaster.

The team lost the first four games by scores of 104-71, 86-68. 67-80 and 94-60. The teams best chances for victory came in the last game against Ukraine which they ended up losing 88-94. The team was blown out in its next contest before taking Italy to overtime before losing 98-96. Give credit to the team for making effort to not get demoted to Division B but alas it was too little too late for the club that lacked talent and firepower.

The good news was Karlo Matkovic joined the team and he was a solid prospect who played well and displayed athleticism and talent. Abdulah Kameric came from Alba Berlin and played very well proving to be the best passer BiH has had in a long time. Josip Ramljak displayed solid all around skills, was a solid contributor and Vojin Ilic proved to be an instant offense guy who had no conscious when it came to taking a shot based upon situation or strategy.

PG Abdulah Kameric: Surprisingly he hardly played in his first two games getting in for only 8 minutes even though he is one of the most experienced players on the roster and one of the teams biggest talents. He plays in Germany for Alba Berlin and has played at the Adidas Next Generation Tournament. He played a combined 8 minutes against Ukraine and Spain in the first two games before finally getting a chance to show his talents. He struggled with shooting during the tournament, specifically from three going 4-19 but has shown the ability in the past to knock down the three with regularity. He went off against Italy in the classification game for 22pts on 8-17 shooting with 8rbs 8ass 3stls. He was a revelation as a passer showing vision, handles and the ability to get to spots, he had 29 assists in the four games he had the chance to play regular minutes in. He had a 2-1 assist to turnover ratio in the tournament and wasn't reckless with the ball, it makes you wonder how he could have played if he had the chance to grow into the position and get comfortable. Or if he has on a team of himself Tarik Biberovic, Dalibor Ilic, Jute Planicic, Kenan Kamenjas, Jusuf Sehic and all the others not on the team. Its not a stretch to think he would have averaged double digit assists. He maybe the best young PG prospect in the nation right now. Even with the inconsistent minutes he averaged 5.4ppg 2.1rbpg 4.3aspg 1.1stls and was a major bright spot for the team. He should have a solid career as a mid level European PG for years to come if he keeps developing.

G Josip Ramljak: A nice revelation for the team he was one of their best players during the tournament. He showed a solid overall skill set he can shoot from two and three and is a smart passer and a good rebounder. Not a great athlete he struggled to defend at times and was out of position at times, a problem that plagued the team through the tournament, leaving the interior defenders in a vulnerable position. He had double digit scoring games four times and his best game came in the last one when he had 24pts 3rbs 5ass 2stls on 9-20 shooting including 5-7 from three. He was a bit sloppy with his ball handling and turnover prone but part of that was how much he had to create for himself and his teammates at time. He averaged 10.4ppg 3rbs 2ass 1stl while shooting 47.1% from two and 40.7% from three. He looks like a player who should play in one of the Balkan or Eastern European leagues for a long time.

G/F Armin Hrstic: He was a surprising addition to the team who played well in moments. He shot the ball well from two but unfortunately half of his shots came from three where he struggled going 4-22. He had a good game against Lithuania in 20 min he had 15pts on 6-8 shooting. During the tournament he averaged 6pts 1.9rbpg 1.1aspg shooting 50% from two and 18.2% from three. He plays in Slovenia and if he keeps developing could have a career as a professional in the future in a lower European league.

G/F Hamza Begic: A player who was on the team last year there was hope he would develop into a key contributor but he struggled in the tournament with minutes and consistency. He didn't get a chance to play much until the final two game, he was a max effort guy and deserves credit for being a good teammate. He hustled and didn't make mistakes and worked on the defensive end of the court which is always appreciated by coaches and teammates. He finally played decent minutes in the last two games of the tournament when he averaged 9.5ppg 5rbpg 2ass. For the tournament he averaged 3.8ppg 2.6rbpg 1.4aspg but shot an abysmal 37.5% from two and 11.1% from three. He will have to work hard to have a semblance of a professional of career if he's interested in taking it that far.

F Vojin Ilic: The only representative of Spars Sarajevo the talent factory of BiH after the loss of Kamenjas which was a point of contention for the club before the tournament. He and Matkovic are the biggest talents on the team and he assumed the role of Biberovic as designated shooter in all circumstances during the tournament. He played well but he also didn't sacrifice for his teammates and too often took shots early in the time clock. He was the only player on the team to provide a consistent outside shooting threat. He played very well in the first 5 games scoring 13. 17, 22, 20, 29 respectively. He would have been a major factor if he had a better supporting cast and even with the loss of Biberovic the team would have had a shot if they would have been able to build a better roster around him, Kameric and Matkovic. He's not much of a passer and defender but can improve in these areas with work, effort, coaching and experience. He averaged 17.8ppg 4.5rbpg 1.2aspg 1.2stls while shooting 38.6% from two, 33.3% from three and 69.2% from the free throw line. He averaged 6.5 FT attempts per game, a very good rate for a shooter and showed his aggressive, attacking nature on offense. He looks to be a very good European level prospect in the future due to his size and talents.

G/F Nedim Omerovic: Another returnee from the National Team he didn't get much of a chance to play for the team this year even with the lowered expectations. He played decent minutes but just didn't show enough on this level. He's a good rebounder for his size and position but he isn't able to create off the dribble and isn't a good outside shooter which is a bad combination for a player at his position. He played over 25mpg over his last three games but averaged only 6.7ppg over that period. His best game was his last one when he had 9pts 8rbs 1ass 2blks on 3-6 shooting. He averaged 3.1ppg 4.1rbpg 1.1aspg while shooting 61.5% from two and 12.5% from three. He struggled from the FT line going 3-9. He will have to work hard to have a semblance of a professional of career if he's interested in taking it that far. He is considered one of the better young prospects on his Sloboda Tuzla team.

G/F Armin Subasic: An all effort guy Armin was a surprising addition to the team this summer. He is the kind of player who endears himself to coaches and got a decent amount of minutes with the team. He just didn't show much however, not a good shooter, he lacks basic offensive skills and doesn't contribute much on that end of the court. He does effort and try to defend so he's got that going for himself. He's foul prone and turns the ball over too much, doesn't draw fouls and struggles to shoot. His best game came against Ukraine in the second game when he had 11pts 3rbs 3stls. He averaged 3.6ppg 1.3rbpg while shooting 63.6% from two and 28.6% from three. He doesn't look like he has a future in professional basketball however.

SG Marko Bosnjak: He was one of the better players on the team even if he is a seriously flawed basketball player. He proved he could rebound and score inside but otherwise struggled with all aspects of basketball. He was foul prone, struggled from the outside and was a one dribble player. He didn't keep the ball moving on offense and the pace seemed to slow when he was on the court. He played big minutes averaging over 26mpg so he had the trust of his coach. He didn't really have a game that stood out but was consistent even if his play was towards the floor rather than the ceiling. He averaged 6.9ppg 4.1rbpg .7aspg he was exceedingly foul prone averaging over 4 fouls per game and fouling out of three games. After a hot start of going 4-6 from three in the first two games he went 1-13 the rest of the way. He shot 77.8% from two, all in the paint and 26.3% from three and 35.7% from the FT line. He will have to work hard to have a semblance of a professional of career if he's interested in taking it that far.

C Karlo Matkovic: It was coupe on the part of Boris Dzidzic to convince Karlo to join the team. He is supremely talented but rail thin and has worn down as the tournament went on. He wasn't ready to carry the team and would have benefited from a better roster around him. He's athletic, quick off his feat, skilled, he's got quick hands and good timing for steals and blocked shots. His best game was against a talented Spanish club where he had 22pts 8rbs 4stls 3blks on 10-15 shooting. He cooled off after that as he was given much less space to operate in the paint from there on out. He averaged 8.6ppg 6.3rbpg 2.1aspg 1.4stls 1.9blks while shooting 56.2% from two and 100% from the FT line. He could develop into a very good basketball player in Europe with his athleticism and excellent all around skill.

PG Haris Dedajic: The undersized Dedajic was a sharp shooter from three in the tournament shooting a blistering 9-13 from three 69.2%. He is more of a combo guard than a pure PG and would have been deadly on a better team with floor spacing. Teams always need players that can shoot the three consistently and if he continues to do so will have a role on a club in Europe for a long time. His best game was against Italy where he had 18pts on 5-11 shooting including 4-4 from three. He's not much of a ball handler or passer, if he was 15cm taller he would be a very good prospect for a big club in Europe. He averaged 7.1ppg 1.1rbpg 1.3aspg but shot only 31.8% from two during the tournament. A poor defender and passer, he will have to work hard to have a semblance of a professional of career if he's interested in taking it that far. He is considered one of the better young prospects on his Sloboda Tuzla team.

G Ali Masic: A surprising addition to the team. He didn't play much until the final game and didn't show tremendous upside. He got a chance to play in the final game and had 10pts 3rbs 2ass 3stls. He averaged 3.3ppg 1.3rbpg .7aspg while shooting 40% from two. A Pro career seems very unlikely.

C Amar Mehic: Just 2-3 years ago he was seen as one of the best prospects in Europe and the next Jusuf Nurkic. He has been slow to develop however and isn't that athletic or skilled. He still looks decent and has a chance to develop into a solid European center for a long time. The problem is his style of play is becoming less and less common in the last 10-15 years. He doesn't move well or defend in space which is a difficult matchup for his team, if he punished teams on the other end of the court like a Miroslav Radulijca that would be one thing. He averaged 3ppg 2.4rbpg had 0 assists, steals and blocks. He has the size and frame to be a pro player but he has a lot of work to do to become an impact player in Europe and every year it seems to get a bit farther away from his as others of his generation develop.

Coach Boris Dzidzic: Give him credit for reaching out to the North American players like Jusuf Sehic and Abdulah Kameric. Although not playing Kameric early was puzzling. The loss of Planicic, Ilic and Biberovic was beyond his control but dismissing Kamenjas was a puzzling move, he obviously had his reasons why. Bringing in Karlo Matkovic deserves a lot of credit and bringing along Josip Ramaljak was a great move. The team was in deep trouble before they had ever played a game and with budget issues and the turmoil at KSBiH he deserves credit for keeping his team competitive especially in the relegation portion of the tournament. Once it became evident the team wouldn't stay in Division A the goal should have been to bring in some more talent from the 2001 generation, the roster only consisted of three of these players Matkovic, Dedajic and Mehic who should all play an expanded role next season.

Istovremeno:
Haris Bratanovic: Bratanovic is a 208cm big man who is one of the best prospects of the 2001 generation. KSBiH failed to recognize his talents early and never gave a serious effort to recruit him to their National program. It was a major mistake as Amar Mehic, who a few years ago was seen as the better prospect has probably reached his physical peak of development already. Bratanovic is just scratching the surface of his potential and will likely be a starter for the Belgium National team for 8-10 years and looks like at worse, a high level European prospect. He led the team to a third place finish and led the team in field goal percent, rebounds and blocked shots. He was also one of the best rebounders and shot blockers in the tournament overall. He averaged 23mpg 13.1ppg 1.9aspg 1.5blks while shooting 69.8% from the field. He is one of the top 5 players of the 2001 generation in Europe.
Dalibor Ilic: Serbia won it all this year and have a deep and talented roster. Ilic had originally committed to playing for BiH before officials from his club Igokea and Serbia got to him and convinced him otherwise, which has worked out well for him. He was role player on a deep and talented squad but don't let that affect how you see his status. The fact he was willing to sacrifice stats for team goals speaks volumes about the maturity and commitment the young man has to winning. He averaged 20mpg 9.3ppg 6rbpg 2.9aspg while shooting 55.6% from the field and 63.6% from the FT line. He had the chance to play a more natural position with the National Team than he does with the regular club and this was good for his development. He is widely seen as a top 5-10 prospect of his generation in Europe.
