Juventus has announced a record-breaking €254.3m loss in their latest financial reporting.
The Bianconeri have been struggling with the after-effect of the 2020 covid pandemic and it continues to tell on their finances.
As one of the biggest clubs in the world, they have continued to spend money to bolster their team to remain competitive.
They announced their latest financials yesterday while Italy took on England.
It seems deliberate to have delivered the bad news at that time because it is the highest loss a Serie A club has ever recorded, according to Football Italia.
It means they have lost more than last year when they posted a €209.9m deficit, and the report reveals it is now the fifth consecutive year they have been in the red.
Juve FC Says
This loss is a huge one and it could get the club into some serious trouble unless we address the reoccurring issue.
Ending every season in financial trouble will eventually catch up with us and we would not want to be in that situation.
The club knows this and we expect they are making plans to make the team profitable again.
With the fans shunning the season tickets and more players expected to be signed in the summer, it is hard to see the team make a profit in the next financial year.
Juventus legend Claudio Marchisio believes the Bianconeri have lost their DNA and looks back to what Antonio Conte brought to the team beginning their winning cycle.
The Bianconeri are experiencing another poor start to the season with just two wins in nine games across all competitions.
Massimiliano Allegri is seen as the primary responsible for Juventus’ crisis, but there are more reasons behind their poor results, including lack of leadership in the dressing room.
“We hit rock bottom, we played in Serie B and after a couple of good seasons in Serie A we finished seventh for two successive seasons,” Marchisio said during Gazzetta’s event Festival Dello Sport in Trento, explaining how Juventus’ cycle began.
“We started well, but then we collapsed in January and we had a sort of stomach ache because we could not achieve what we wanted.
“It was hard to understand, we trained well, we were a united team, but it never worked. Then Conte arrived, he touched the team’s soul, especially of those who had already won trophies.
“He was like: ‘Is this who you really are? This is Juventus, we must return to spit blood on the pitch. We must return where we belong.’
“We were also lucky that season, but sometimes you need that turning point, that game that makes the season change.”
Conte won the title in his three seasons in charge of the Bianconeri, leaving the club one day into the 2014-15 pre-season.
Juventus won the Scudetto again under Conte’s successor Max Allegri but then had another poor start in 2015-16.
“We feared we would return to the past,” admitted Marchisio. “It was a terrible start, we were not in a good position, but the [Turin] derby changed everything. I believe this sums up Juventus’ period now.
“If a team is really united, the coach and the club may not count much. If the group is solid, players are able to find the key to ending the crisis. Even without great performances. This is part of Juventus’ DNA, end difficulties with a united group.”
Juventus eventually won the title after an epic comeback and went on to get nine in a row, ending their winning streak in 2020-21.
Leonardo Bonucci is the Bianconeri’s captain this season, but the Old Lady seems to be lacking more strong personalities in the dressing room following the departures of Gigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini over the last two years.
Marchisio is a product of Juventus’ academy and scored 37 goals in 389 games with the Bianconeri, winning seven Serie A titles.
