Otamendi, who is still 27, was then included in Argentina’s provisional list for the World Cup but ended up missing Alejandro Sabella’s call. The Argentinian defender has featured in 35 matches, proving to be one of La Liga’s best defenders and a big threat on attacking set pieces as well. He plays through injuries when needed and his courage and willingness to lead Valencia’s defensive line were soon appreciated by the Mestalla fans.

Otamendi is the classic Argentinian defender. He’s aggressive with the ball carrier and he never gives up on a play thanks to his quickness. During Valencia’s statement 2-1 win against Real Madrid, Otamendi managed to stay close to Gareth Bale in the open field and stopped the Welshman's effort at Diego Alves’ goal, securing the three points for his squad.

Physically speaking, Otamendi simply dominates.

His positioning could be improved and his aggressiveness sometimes lets him down, but Otamendi’s partnership with Shkodran Mustafi at the hear of Valencia’s defense is a very complementary one. While Otamendi provides the physical presence and intensity needed in every defensive line wanting to recover the ball quickly, Mustafi is the one player keeping composure at all times, trying to minimize Otamendi’s mistakes.

Valencia needed big upgrades on that position and the Argentinian and Mustafi have been a big success in the club for a combined fee of €20 million, one so shocking that British outlets have been reporting Manchester United’s interest in Otamendi during the last few months.

It would not be easy for Valencia to find a good replacement for Otamendi, so the club must resist the surely tempting offer Manchester United will send. The market for the centre-back position is extremely thin and Valencia would be better off by keeping the defender.

Pa oko 45 miliona eura. Uglavnom fino je cuti navijaca Valencije, koji sigurno moze donijeti najbolju analizu o pomenutom.
