If LeBron James isn't sure he can win in Cleveland, President Barack Obama thinks there's an opportunity with his hometown Chicago Bulls.

"You know, like I said, I don't want to meddle," Obama told TNT. "I will say this: [Derrick] Rose, Joakim Noah it's a pretty good core. You know, you could see LeBron fitting in pretty well there."

I think that the most important thing for LeBron right now is actually to find a structure where he's got a coach that he respects and is working hard with teammates who care about him and if that's in Cleveland, then he should stay in Cleveland," Obama said. "If he doesn't feel like he can get it there, then someplace else."

Obama compared James' situation to the Bulls not winning until Michael Jordan had confidence in Phil Jackson, Scottie Pippen and the rest of his teammates. Once that happened, Chicago won six NBA championships in the 1990s.

"It wasn't until you got that framework around you that you could be a champion," Obama said. "Same thing happened with Kobe [Bryant]. You know, I think that, first with Shaq [O'Neal] then later with [Pau] Gasol, you know, he's gotten that sense of a team around him and I think LeBron hasn't quite been able to get that yet. That's what he needs to find."

The Chicago Bulls have reached out to Phil Jackson through back channels to gauge his interest in returning to the franchise he won six NBA titles with, according to two **** with knowledge of the situation.

There has been no direct contact between Bulls officials and Jackson, according to the ****, but people close to both parties have spoken and come away with the belief that Jackson would be open to a potential reunion in Chicago next season.

Gar Forman, the Bulls' general manager, refused to comment on the club's coaching search when reached Monday night by telephone.

Chicago could be on the verge of its biggest offseason since the Michael Jordan Era, when Jordan and Jackson led the club to double three-peats from 1991-1993 and 1996-1998.

With roughly $23 million to spend in free agency, the Bulls are one of the more probable landing spots for LeBron James. James is intrigued by the possibility of playing with Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah, according to ****, and the return of Jackson would only make the Bulls that much more attractive to the Cleveland Cavaliers' two-time MVP.

Jackson, who is in the final year of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, would likely only be interested in coaching Chicago if James signed there. If Jackson and James joined the Bulls, Jackson would have the unparalleled opportunity to have coached Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal and James.

The Bulls are one of six teams in the league with a head coaching vacancy and one of several believed to have interest in Jackson.

Jackson, whose Lakers lead the Phoenix Suns 2-1 in the Western Conference finals, has said recently there's a "90 percent chance" that if he coaches next season it will be with the Lakers. But Lakers owner Jerry Buss reportedly wants Jackson to take a pay cut from the $12 million salary he's receiving this season.

That could open the door for the Bulls, as well as the Cavaliers or New Jersey Nets, to make a run at Jackson.

The future of the 64-year old coach has been a mystery surrounding the Lakers all season.

On March 26 in Oklahoma City Jackson said, "No decision and no leaning at all. I'm leaning against the wall and that's about it," after a report surfaced earlier that day that Jackson had made his decision to return.

On May 4, during the second round against the Utah Jazz, Jackson said he would not be interested in the Bulls' job after hearing of Vinny Del Negro's firing.

"No, I'm not," Jackson said. "I think it's a wonderful job for whoever takes it. It's a team on the rise and there's some young talent that showed their ability to come back after probably a devastating first two months. Then from January on they played pretty well."

Prior to Game 1 of the conference finals, Jackson modified the line he used in Oklahoma City, saying, "I'm leaning on a podium, that's about it," when asked about a radio interview with Fox Sports Radio's "The Petros and Money Show" when Jackson's stance seemed to waiver.

"Well I think it's pretty good," he said following a question about his chances of retiring after this season. "It's really about how I feel about getting into another 82-game season. It's a commitment."

Jackson, the NBA's all-time leader with 10 championships, coached the Bulls from 1989-1998. Since leaving the Bulls, Jackson has maintained a friendship with team owner Jerry Reinsdorf.

Don Nelson passed Lenny Wilkens as winningest NBA coach last season, but the battle might not be over.

Wilkens, 72, has agreed to serve as a consultant to the South Korean national team and has not ruled out a return to the NBA, according to a story on SI.com.

"If the situation was right, I certainly would consider [coaching again]," Wilkens said, according to the website. "I have not explored it. But Cleveland certainly has a good team. So does Chicago. A few teams are good and need coaches. Let's see how everything shakes out and then we'll see."

Wilkens coached in the NBA for 32 seasons and racked up 1,332 wins. Nelson passed that number, but there is no guarantee he will return to the bench this season since the Warriors' ownership situation is in flux.

In the meantime, Wilkens will travel to Seoul June 4 to work with the Koreans and put together a team that will scrimmage NBA players in the Las Vegas summer league.

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James offered some stern analysis of the end of the Toronto Raptors season on Tuesday night.

Speaking after the Cavaliers dispatched the Chicago Bulls in Game 5 of their NBA Eastern Conference quarter-final, James sidetracked into a comparison of the Bulls and the Raptors, who were fighting to the last day of the season for the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference.

“We knew that this team would push us. Honestly, we would rather play Chicago — we wanted to play Chicago more than Toronto in this first round because we knew we were going to get pushed a little more,” James told reporters. “That’s not taking anything away from Toronto, but with (Chris) Bosh being out for the rest of the season and all those injuries and they just didn’t seem like they wanted to even make the playoffs at the end of the season.

“Especially when you seen the game between Chicago and Toronto in Toronto. You could tell they didn’t really want to make the playoffs. It probably would have ended up in that same way if we had played Toronto like it was last year (a dominating four-game sweep against Detroit). When Chicago made the eighth seed, we was excited about that because we knew that we had to be in tune every possession, every game because that team plays hard no matter the score, no matter the time and no matter what the series is.”

In his answer, James made reference to Chicago’s 104-88 win over the Raptors at the Air Canada Centre on April 11, the third last game of the season, which put Chicago in the driver’s seat for the final playoff spot.

Boozer: MJ's legacy not a negative

Carlos Boozer doesn't believe his fellow free agents will view playing in Chicago -- under the shadow of Michael Jordan's legacy -- as a negative. In fact, the Utah Jazz forward sees it as one of Chicago's selling points when free agency opens on July 1.

"A lot of people in my era, in my age group, we watched MJ do what he did: win championships, be the face of the NBA and continue to dominate the game," Boozer said Wednesday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "I think most of the free agents this summer [think it's] probably an attractive thing to have that history, where MJ played, where [Scottie] Pippen played for those six championships.

"I can remember being a kid and watching that. I think everybody, whoever it is this summer, can remember watching MJ do his thing in Chicago, so I think that will be more of a positive thing than a negative thing."

Although LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have gotten most of the attention among this summer's vaunted free-agent class, Boozer is an established inside scoring threat, averaging 19.5 points and 11.2 rebounds with the Jazz this season.

While Bosh released a top-five teams list, Boozer was coy about his preferred destinations, but stressed that Utah is still very much in the running. He also said the Bulls would have to be in the mix as well, and they likely will be for every free agent this summer.

"Really good, really young," Boozer said when asked for his impression of the Bulls. "They're young but with a lot of experience. They've gone to the playoffs for a couple years and had some great battles with the Celtics. This year was tough with the Cavs who went through them fast. They have a lot of talent, a lot of guys who can play. It's going to be interesting to see what happens with that franchise this summer."
