The Gunners’ tiny chance of a title triumph hangs in the balance, but in truth, most fans are already thinking about how a more serious challenge can be launched next season.

Arsenal are on great form but their shocking start to the season is the reason they will in all likelihood, once again fall short of the Premier League. Whilst a top four place is all but secure, Arsene Wenger needs to find the right players this summer to give the Gunners the edge in next year’s title race. Here is three players I feel would do just that:

1. Morgan Schneiderlin

The Southampton midfielder is high up on any Arsenal fans wish list for the summer. The 25-year-old is Premier League proven in a position where the Gunners are looking to improve. If Southampton don’t manage to finish in the top four, I expect him to try and force a move away, and Arsenal looks like the perfect destination for him. With Schneiderlin and Francis Coquelin, Arsenal would finally have a decent set of defensive midfielders to help compliment their attacking talents.

2. Marco Reus

Whilst an attacking signing is not a necessity, getting Reus this summer would be an incredible coup for the Gunners. The German signed a new deal with Dortmund recently but with Jurgen Klopp leaving and Dortmund not in the Champions League next season, Reus might be looking to move on this summer. Arsenal are an attractive destination as they are a club on the rise, but not so full of stars that he may struggle for game time, like he may at a club like Real Madrid. The Gunners will have to flex their financial muscle to pull off this signing, but sales from the likes of Theo Walcott may help fund a move.

3. Petr Cech

This one might be hard to pull off but it’s a signing I think Arsenal need to make in order to win the league. The Czech keeper is set to leave Chelsea at the end of the season and although you’d expect the Blues to refuse to sell to a Premier League rival, some respected journalists believe the west London club will allow Cech to choose his new club. A move across London could appeal to him, and his experience and quality would help vastly improve our starting XI.

Arsenal have reportedly agreed a cut-price £15million deal that will see Southampton’s Morgan Scheiderlin complete a transfer to the Emirates.

The Gunners are keen to add a defensive midfielder to their ranks and the Frenchman is their top target.

Schneiderlin, 25, is one of the Saints’ top stars and was believed to be priced at around £25million but Southampton have accepted this lower offer, according to the Mirror.

Arsene Wenger will be delighted to add his compatriot to his squad as they eye the title next season.

Arsenal will reportedly go head-to-head with Manchester United in a battle to complete the £28.9million transfer of Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain.

The Gunners had been set to open talks with the Argentine frontman this week but United have joined the race to seal his signature.

The former Real Madrid striker is one of the most highly rated strikers in world football but is set to leave the Italian club at the end of the season, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
