West Ham vs Juventus confirmed as club's first match at the Olympic Stadium






West Ham will play Italian giants Juventus in their first-ever match following their move to the Olympic Stadium.

The reigning Serie A champions will provide the opposition in the Betway Cup, on Sunday 7 August, kick-off 1pm at the former Olympic Stadium, Stratford.

Juventus are currently 12 points clear of second-placed Napoli in Italy's top flight following their most recent success, a 2-1 win over Fiorentina; and West Ham will be confident of attracting a big crowd for their debut in their new 60,000-capacity home.

In a joint statement, West Ham co-chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold said: "We are delighted to be marking such a monumental day in West Ham United's history by welcoming one of the world's biggest clubs to our fantastic new home.

Sky Sports Italy are reporting that Juventus sub Juan Cuadrado refused to warm-up during Fiorentina – Juventus.

Asked by Coach Max Allegri and Juventus’ physio to warm up in the second half, the Colombian was adamant that he wouldn’t… ON TWO OCCASIONS, according to Sky’s Alessandro Alciato.

The former Fiorentina player would eventually be subbed on two minutes from time, and was held responsible for a foul on Nikola Kalinic, which led to Fiorentina’s penalty.
