The above news adds a new twist to the Bernard saga, supposedly he failed his first medical but passed his second in Roma. News on the Bernard deal broke three days ago and today Wenger has asked whether the report that Bernard was to be revealed on Friday was true as according to L’Equipe, he replied
“That report is not true”

However he did not deny interest in the player or that any bid had been made, he simply denied the fact he was signing on Friday. As we all know Arsenal and Wenger included are very secretive on transfers and as such you often have to try and read between the lines. Wenger said two days before we signed Arteta he was not signing for us, he often denies interest in players that we are known to have made bids for.

Bernard is a 20 year old winger who comes in at a sprightly 5 ft 4. He plays for Althetico Minero and has a remarkable turn of pace and agility which means he is a tricky character to come up against. He has broken into the Brazilian squad and was often first off the bench in the recent Confederations Cup. He was let go twice by Minero in his youth days due to his lack of physical presence and whilst he is still quiet short he is strong on the ball. He can play behind the striker but with Arsenal already having numerous players in that position it would be surprising to see him employed there.

Do Arsenal need a winger?
Well last season we had the Ox, Poldi, Walcott and Gervinho who played on the wing. Gervinho looks like he is set to leave and the Ox is being converted into a CM and despite Gnabry and Miyiachi coming through we could do with another player out wide in my opinion. At 20 year old he has a lot of potential but is he worth the reported £21 million?
