3 questions for... Erik Gerets

The Marseille coach encouraged his players to remain focussed, despite the atmosphere surrounding this OM-Atletico. “We’ll be thinking of Santos before and after the match, but not during. We’re playing to qualify, and that would be a great gift for him.”

Erik Gerets, are your players perturbed by the atmosphere surrounding this clash?
No. If that was the case, there’d be no point starting the game. We’ll be playing a match of football to qualify for the UEFA Cup. We can play in honour of Santos. It’s an extra motivation. We’ll be thinking of him tonight, tomorrow morning, before and after the match, but not during. We’re playing to qualify, and that would be a great gift for him, because he’s going through a tough time.

The Atletico delegation arrives tomorrow, without supporters. Have you ever seen a European match played against such a backdrop?

Navijač Marseillea izlazi iz madridskog zatvora

Nakon što je odvjetnik Santosa Mirasierre, navijača Marseillea koji je već dva mjeseca u madridskom pritvoru zbog napada na policajca, uložio žalbu, sud ga je odlučio osloboditi uz jamčevinu...

U petak je najniža sudbena instanca u Španjolskoj nepravomoćno presudila Francuzu troipogodišnjom kaznom zatvora. Njegov se španjolski odvjetnik istog trenutka žalio instanci iznad, nakon čega je navijaču nogometne momčadi s Velodromea odobreno puštanje uz jamčevinu od 6000 eura.

Njegov je odvjetnik još nije stigao uplatiti, tako da se Mirasierra i dalje nalazi u kaznionici 80 kilometara daleko od Madrida. Očekuje se da će jamčevina biti plaćena u srijedu ujutro, te da će nakon toga Francuz moći otići kući u Miramas, gdje će čekati ponovno suđenje u Španjolskoj.

Moguće je da mu sud odredi i da ne smije napustiti španjolski teritorij.

Vijest je objavljena nekoliko sati uoči početka utakmice Lige prvaka između Marseillea i Atletico Madrida na Velodromeu, gdje su se spremali navijački prosvjedi, a strahovalo se i od moguće eskalacije navijačkog nasilja. Moguće je da je ovim potezom španjolsko pravosuđe pokušalo pridonijeti smanjenju napetosti.

Mirasierra je napao policajca na utakmici istih klubova u Madridu prije dva mjeseca, nakon čega je uhićen i pritvoren.

Bakljada i sukobi na izlasku Santosa Mirasierre iz madridskog zatvora

Olympique de Marselle nije osvojio nikakav trofej, ali ipak su njegovi navijači ipak slavili. Povod je bilo puštanje ultrasa Santosa Mirasierre iz madridskog zatvora...

Santos je nakon dva mjeseca pritvora pušten na uvjetnu slobodu uz jamčevinu od 6000 eura, dok se odlučuje o njegovoj žalbi na presudu od 3,5 godine zatvora zbog napada na policajca prilikom utakmice Atletica i Marseillea na Calderonu. Budući da mu je vraćena putovnica, Francuz je unajmljenim avionom prebačen u domovinu, ali ne prije no što su mu njegovi sunarodnjaci priredili doček za pamćenje.

Na izlasku iz zatvora Estremera dočekala ga je gomila uglavnom francuskih novinara i mnogi kolege iz navijačke skupine, koji su upalili brojne baklje. Došlo je i do naguravanja između ultrasa i predstavnika medija pa je jedna televizijska snimateljica višekratno udarena po licu.

Budući da ga u Francuskoj smatraju mučenikom i žrtvom španjolskog pravosuđa, teško da će ga neki sud u Marseilleu izručiti natrag u Španjolsku ako to bude zatraženo. Koliko je velika njegova popularnost u rodnom gradu, svjedoči i podatak da je avion za njega platio predsjednik OM-a, Pape Diouf, koji je pokrenuo diplomatsku kampanju za Santosovo puštanje.

Nije isključeno da je upravo diplomatski pritisak presudio kod odluke španjolskog suda da kontroverznog navijača pusti kući.

A POINT OF HONOUR
Despite dominating from start ot finish, OM was unable to crown their final Champions League group game with win. But the draw still opens the door to the last-32 of the UEFA Cup. Great news which came just hours after the announcement of Santos’ being released on bond.

OM 0-0 ATLETICO
The Olympians would have liked to quit the Champions League on a high and with a win. Especially considering the backdrop to this special match. This day that everyone awaited with baited breath which turned out so well. But the point for the draw, a point of honour, was enough for everyone. OM still qualify for the UEFA Cup after Liverpool defeated PSV 3-1 in the evenings other match. A qualification which will add a little more joy to the Mirasierra family after the announcement of Santos’ imminent release on bond.
The announcement, made in the afternoon, lifted a huge weight hanging over the match. The tension lifted.

All that remained was the match. Such a decisive match, which had been relegated to a supporting role. The Olympians started well, pressuring their opponents and stifling their rare attempts to construct as well as trying to get forward quickly and at every opportunity. The physical impact was on the Olympian’s camp with an excellent Lorik Cana.
In fact, despite an Aguero counterattack that came to nothing, the Atletico attack bore little resemblance to the free-scoring attack anticipated at the Vél. In fact, Atletico looked at times, all at see against the motivated Marseille players. Even if OM’s domination wasn’t translated into goals.

The was the potential to get the win. Like when Valbuena skipped clear of the defence and crossed only for Kaboré to miss the target with two minutes left on the clock. But the players still quit the Vél with their heads held high and the qualification in the pockets and then end of a great day.
