Osvaldo working on a scheduled day off - Once again demonstrating his commitment to Inter, Dani Osvaldo will miss Inter's scheduled rest day in order to work on recovering from injury. According to Corriere dello Sport the ex Southampton man will receive treatment this morning at Appiano Gentile in an attempt to return to fitness as soon as possible.
Icardi will renew his contract shortly - Mauro Icardi is ready to sign a new contract with Inter which will commit him to the Nerazzurri until 2019 coupled with a salary which has been raised to in excess of €2 million. The strikers impressive start to the season is sure to raise interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs (Arsenal in particular). Erick Thohir however has been firm, offers below €40 million won't be considered for Icardi or Kovacic.
David Moyes, the former Manchester United is a possible candidate as the next Inter coach according to reports from transfer news outlets such as Di Marzio and radiomercato. Moyes was interviewed by the Daily Telegraph and here is what he had to say about his future;

“I am ready to return to football. I’ve no time-scale. I’m enjoying the break but I am a football man and I want to work, I feel my best years are ahead of me and I do feel I am still a young manager. I’ve lots to learn and lots I want to put into practice. “

“I think I am better-equipped to take over a job like Manchester United now than even when I did take over because I’ve had a chance to see what happens, what goes on,” Moyes explained.

“I felt I was ready when I left Everton but obviously when you get in you see things and you realise that experience and knowledge you can only get from being in the job. But unfortunately I only got nine months.”

There is also talk about a possible new job;

“I will wait for the right opportunity picking my next job is vitally important, I am well aware of that. I’ve an open mind as to what it will be and where it will be – if it is in the Premier League or in the UK that is fine. But if it’s abroad then I’m okay with that. I have always been an advocate of players and coaches going abroad if it is the right opportunity. It’s good that we have good managers like José Mourinho and Arsene Wenger in this country but I think we should be trying to send out some of our managers to other countries to help not just the development of themselves but the leagues over here. It can enhance their careers. So I’ve got an open mind on where I go next.”

Good news for Pablo Daniel Osvaldo. The injury suffered during the Nationals (stretching of 2nd degree left adductor) is less severe than expected. There is widespread optimism that Osvaldo will be ready to play again in the home-game against Hellas Verona and be fit for the derby against AC Milan.

Odličan tekst o tome kako je Mazzarri podbacio u Interu:
Walter Mazzarri – The Missing Drill Sergeant
October 2, 2014

Walter Mazzarri was brought in with fans knowing full well what not to expect from him. We shouldn’t expect expressive free flowing football, nor should we expect excessive flair or an overly possessive style of football. But the one thing we were promised has, in my mind, failed to be delivered.

Walter Mazzarri was brought in as a real drill sergeant. I expected well defined team manoeuvres, a certain effective style of football (perhaps reminiscent of the 4-3-1-2 with Mancini) which, while unattractive, was effective. Perhaps even just physicality breaking down opponents, and a reliance on set pieces to create chances.

What do we have, though? With Walter Mazzarri, sadly, nothing like what we had hoped for. Last season’s failings were okay. We were a team in a lot of transition, with a lot of first teamers to leave. But where is the excuse for this season? We’ve spent a substantial amount of money and given him the chance to sign players he really wanted, but what have we got to show for it?

As classic Inter fans, a huge and unnecessary overreaction to the 7-0 win against Sassuolo probably didn’t help, but Walter Mazzarri did himself no favours by looking clueless in the subsequent 4-1 loss to then bottom of the table Cagliari. Adding insult to injury was the hat-trick by ex-Juventus player Ekdal.

The one thing that I keep seeing as a recurring theme is the lack of team coherency. I’m worried that our only real plan is an occasional moment of flair from genius but inconsistent players like Icardi (who has now not scored in 4 matches in a row, tonight possibly being his 5th?), Kovacic – often great often invisible – or Hernanes, and to cross. If there is one aspect of Inter’s game that Walter Mazzarri deserves credit for being a drill master in, it is the ability to make full-backs do nothing but cross 20 times a match. If only we could direct more than one out of every twenty of them to an Inter player, we might actually stand a chance of scoring more often.

The sad side persists when we look at the full-backs too. For all of Jonathan’s failings, he has contributed significantly less so far this season than he has last season. The same is true of Nagatomo. Dodo, on the other hand, has been quite impressive to date, but there has to be a question of how much longer we persist in playing Jonathan.

I can’t help but feel that our game is massively limited by this completely inexplicable desire to play the ball out to the wing backs – dragging them far forward and leaving them out of position for a defensive phase – which also forces us to play the ball away from central midfield. Central midfield, ironically, is probably the strongest area of the team, with ball-players like M’Vila, Hernanes and Kovacic all capable, and a great new defensive stalwart in Medel to enforce.

I really need to see a step up from Inter sometime soon. We’re still playing like the unorganised team of Stramaccioni or Ranieri, showing no ability to actually exploit our attributes. I was prepared to accept – hesitantly – last season, but this season, given the budget Walter Mazzarri has had, as well, we really need to see results.
O novom treneru koji je preporodio Primaveru:
Stefano Vecchi – The Primavera’s Real Star
September 28, 2014

People who have followed my postings in the last couple of years will know how important I think a top Primavera coach is, and how unhappy I have been with the post-Stramaccioni replacements in Bernazzani and Salvatore in the last couple of seasons.

Stefano Vecchi

We’ve done unprecedented things with the Primavera this year – currently sat top in the table with 4 wins from 4, at least 2 points clear of our nearest rivals, having scored a whopping 20 goals in those 4 games, conceding only 2, you would naturally think Stefano Vecchi was leading one of the younger sides, where cricket scores are more common, rather than the top Primavera side.

Last season with a similar-ish team, we managed 54 goals in 26 matches, or slightly over 2 per match. This year we’ve already scored over a third of what we did last season, with our new look Primavera team under Stefano Vecchi.

Bernazzani and Salvatore were lacking as coaches – they had extremely talented players at their disposal (arguably, infact, better players, with people like Benassi, Pasa, Olsen, Tassi, Capello, Garritano, etc) but failed to utilise them.

The significantly improved utilisation from Stefano Vecchi is already reaping rewards. Puscas, who many non-Primavera followers would not have expected much of a serious shout in for the first team, let alone ahead of team mate Bonazzoli, has really lit the league on fire, having already hit home 9 goals in 3 games, and cruising to break the Primavera goalscoring records which, as far as I’m aware, currently lie with Issah Eliakwu for 18 in 2003/2004, jointly held with Mattia Destro for 18 in 2009/2010.

The difference Stefano Vecchi has introduced should be duly noted by Inter fans everywhere. Previous Primavera coaches had teams full of extremely talented players, but failed to utilise them effectively (last season’s cluster of poorly managed but extremely talented forwards was a disgrace, as has recent years of extremely bloated squads with talented midfielders, mostly benched). Stefano Vecchi, on the other hand, has shown signs of rotation where necessary, whilst embracing his most talented players and letting them truly express themselves. Last year we saw hardly any consistent playing time for the big name strikers in the youth team, resulting in most of them not really hitting peak form, and a poor season for the Primavera overall. This year things are different.

We do, granted, continue to suffer from the bloated squads from recent years which the removal of the Berretti (and subsequent reintroduction) has caused, but we are also seeing more rotation than previous. Most importantly, however, the most talented players are really expressing themselves. Bonazzoli and Puscas have now hit home 14 goals between themselves in 4 matches, and are impressing enough to really put some pressure on the first team level. Moreover, some of the squad players, in Camara, Yao and Donkor, will probably start pushing for their chances soon too.

Post-Stramaccioni we really suffered with our Primavera coaches, which has resulted in youth players not getting the full development they could have benefitted from in their final youth season before moving out on loan to other clubs, which has caused some clear ‘lost’ seasons in many cases. Now, however, the best are not only doing respectably, but rather, really stunning. How often do you see pundits in Italy give praise to non-Italian youth players? Seldom, if ever. Yet Camara and Puscas have both really lit up the Italian media.

It is worth mentioning too that he is doing this in unusual fashion, too. Continuing our tradition of generally playing kids younger than necessary in the top youth competition – today’s line up started with a 19 year old (Donkor, recovering from injury), 6 18 year olds, 3 17 year olds and 1 16 year old (including Gnoukouri’s birthday!) – we come in younger than our typical competition, who we are so convincingly dominating to date.

Stefano Vecchi’s main job is to focus on developing our young players to be first team ready, and to make them look good and shine. The convincing wins against Lanciano and Perugia will go a long way to that affect, and it won’t be long before pressure is applied on the first team – especially given the current form we find ourselves in.
O dva velika talenta iz Primavere:
Primavera Spotlight : Gaston Camara
September 21, 2014

It’s time to do a spotlight on Gaston Camara, a star of our Primavera, recently hailed by some parts of the Italian press as ready ahead of Puscas or Bonazzoli for first team action.

We signed him on loan at the start of last season from Santarcangelos, a relatively unknown Lega Pro 2 club. He impressed so much that we exercised his option to purchase at the end of the January transfer window – rather than waiting till the summer (as we did with Puscas for example).

You’ll see a repeated theme with a lot of Camara’s action here. He loves playing on the outside, hugging the by line, and cutting between the full-back and wing-back to get in behind the defense. He knows extremely well that his top priority is to get behind the defense and into the box to then create opportunities for his team-mates.

In highlight clips you’ll often see he is the guy who creates most, if not all, the assists for Inter, and has been hailed as one of the best primavera players we have now.

Camara’s game, naively, looks like it relies heavily on pace and the ability to simply dribble past defending players, but I think if you look at his gameplay a bit closer, you’ll see other depths to it. He’s quick in thinking too, often seeing one or two steps ahead of the gameplay as all great players can do, and he has the technique to execute his paced tight-angled turns to get past players when ganged up by several defenders (as quickly often becomes necessary). More than that, though, I think he actually has pretty good vision, and knows how to be decisive and actually create opportunities for the team.

What can often be a real struggle for Primavera players is to transfer talent and raw skill to impact on the pitch, and impact on the pitch is definitely not something Gaston Camara lacks.

I would have liked to see him go out on loan this season, but now that we have him in the Primavera, we need to focus on giving him as much playing time as possible and letting him have the maximum impact, whilst training with the first team so we can see the real measure of the player, and focusing his development on trying to round out his skillset.

I think we do have a bit of a gem in Gaston Camara, he still needs a lot of development before we can talk about putting him in to the first team, but I’m hopeful that one day we’ll see him lighting up the right wing of the San Siro with his skills.

Primavera Spotlight : George Puscas
August 30, 2014

George Puscas is fast becoming one of my favourite Primavera players. For those who follow me on facebook/FIF, and have read some of the blog articles here, you will know how highly I rate him.

We signed George Puscas quietly last summer on loan from a second division club in Romania. George Puscas was born on the 8th of April, 1996 – making him barely 18 this year. Initially signed on loan, and under the radar (with fanfare signings of Ventre and Capello), people didn’t have a huge expectation of him. Considering the many players we had going for us up front – Bonazzoli, Ventre, Capello, and the then-unknown Camara and Puscas – it was fair to assume he wouldn’t get a substantial amount of game time, especially as it was initially insisted that the Primavera would follow Mazzarri’s tactics, leaving only one or two strikers starting every match.

How wrong we were.

George Puscas showed substantial levels of clinical ability in our youth team, scoring at least one hat-trick that I can recall off the top of my head now (notching 8 goals in 18 primavera appearances last year, starting only about a dozen of those games), Puscas managed to really thrive in the Primavera and claim a first team spot for himself, competing with the 5 million euro rated Alessandro Capello among others.

Inter converted his loan deal to a permanent contract quickly, for a meagre 300,000 euros – a real bargain – and he has arguably directly led to the discarding of Alessandro Capello, who I thought was still pretty good, but clearly our management decided that the money was better invested in George Puscas – and they were certainly right.

Today, as many people will know, he scored 5 goals in the Primavera league opener against Lanciano. None of them individually brilliant goals, but the sum product of them is one hell of a complete forward that does not leave a lot to be desired, at his level.

2:00 – George Puscas first
4:07 – George Puscas tap in
4:50 – George Puscas hat trick
5:30 – George Puscas 4th
6:35 – George Puscas 5th

If you watch the goals, you’ll see someone who knows how to get into the right place at the right time, who has a very keen eye for goal, and knows how to find gaps in the defense. Of course at this level anyone with some talent can make the opposing team look like a very mediocre side, but I also don’t remember the last time a Primavera striker scored 5 goals in a match for Inter. I don’t believe that any of Longo, Destro, Balotelli, etc, managed this great achievement for us.

I’ve long said that George Puscas in the youth team this year would be a waste, I’m still hoping for a last minute loan to a Serie B side, I don’t think he will necessarily thrive there yet, but he should be well posed to compete for a first team position, and I think it is the mental development that he needs now more than anything else – his technical skills are as complete as they will be for our youth team.

George Puscas is a great gem that we have our hands on, and I think he actually has the footballing intelligence to succeed at his game – he isn’t dependent on muscling off defenders who will never make it as professionals – but rather, his positioning, timing, running, and technique
