Roberto Mancini spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport,
Tell us about the transfer market?
“I’m happy because the club gave me full control over the situation of the market but of course, within the limits of its financial situation, we need an offensive winger and the market is wide and surprising, Cerci is an important and strong player and he wants to return to Italy, but we need to be lucky to land him, I hear he is having trouble in Madrid, he isn’t playing, but maybe Atletico picked him up because they have a project around him later, we must look at those who are not finding space at their teams, who wants out and are unhappy where they are.”
“We have been following Cerci for a while now, the chances of signing him are high, but we must be cautious because anything can happen in football.”
“Ezequiel Lavezzi is a big name too, he knows Serie A well but he is a Paris-Saint Germain player now, maybe in June, let’s wait and see.”
“Mohamed Salah is an excellent talent and an interesting young prospect, Ivan Perisic is a good player, he fits us perfectly and have the right profile for Inter, but he is not easy to get, Lucas Leiva is a big name too with tons of experience which can be useful but he’s a Liverpool player, clubs don’t give away their players like this.”
Selling players to modify the team?
“It can happen, maybe the right sale would allow you to buy the needed right players that can establish a future for the club, whether they are young or not.”
Who to sell? Guarin? Kovacic?
“Guarin is a talented player with lots of qualities, but the ego inside him can only be lost by hard work, while Kovacic is an excellent player, I expect a great future for him, he is having fun playing football and developing naturally on his own path, both physically and as a man, I told my players: ‘you matter more than I do’. And that’s the truth.”
Mario Balotelli?
“I’m surprised he has more haters than admirers, well, he didn’t help himself, really, I think Mario should spend a good Christmas, and then go back to being as he was, if he returned to his old strength, sooner or later I’d want him back. Everything depends on him.”
