Re: ATP Tour
"I detest tennis." Nick Kyrgios interviewed by @franckramella in Saturday's l'Équipe.
You often speak of reducing the number of tournaments you play. Is that because it's difficult living in Australia?
"Travelling is hell. It takes me more than 24 hours to get here. I'd say it's the job. It's the bad side of living in Australia. The idea is to be home as much as possible and still play well in the tournaments I've signed up for. I don't want to be one of those who plays everywhere, even if it means climbing up the rankings is tougher."
You get the impression that with you, Tomic, Hewitt or Cash in the past, all the Australian players are a bit special. Why?
"I agree with what you say but I don't know why, because we all have different personalities off the court. And we all have different styles on the court. Thanasi (Kokkinakis) is a great fighter. I'm a great fighter. We can all come back from two sets down at a slam. We all fight."
You say you play well when it's "emotional". What does that mean?
"Being 'emotional' means having fun, it's showing the energy, the passion. How do you get to that state? I need energy, When I'm having fun, it's harder to beat me. But that's not always the case. You, when you're not happy, you keep working, right? It's the same for me."
You like being on the tour, in the player's locker room?
"I can't stand it. I hate it. I want to go back home (fixed, serious look). To be completely honest, I detest it."
OK, let's stay serious ...
"I'm serious! (We have no idea what to make of that!) I miss my family. Do you always like writing articles? Surely not. And what do you do? You try and write as well as you can. Same."
You've said you learned a lot last year, especially after the Wawrinka affair. But what?
"To be honest, I'd rather not say much about that. Some things have changed a bit about the way I am. But on the court, nothing! What I can bring to tennis is excitement, fun, amusement. In any case, I don't regret anything. I go my own way. Anyway, I know in any case there'll be highs and lows."
Does being who you are make moving up difficult?
"Yes. It's tough, that's true. Everyone scrutinises me in Australia. I try and be a good example for kids. My breakthrough was Wimbledon in 2014 (quarters) and since, the road's been long and hard."
One wouldn't say that you've been especially a role model for kids. What do you want to show them.
"Have fun, enjoy the moment. There."
Who's your favourite player of the Big 4?
"Andy (Murray). He's the one who has his feet on the ground the most. He says what he thinks. He's a really good person."
Then you still like tennis ...
"No I detest tennis (he doesn't laugh).

Ako bude dovoljno pametan, postat će novi broj jedan kroz par sezona.

Re: ATP Tour
