A brief update on Arsenal's latest transfer rumours.
Higuain
Despite reports that Arsenal are closer to signing the Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain for £23 million, the deal has encountered a minor and inconvenient roadblock in the form of Real Madrid and their desire for a larger fee. Negotiations are ongoing, but a deal is soon expected to be agreed for the 25 year-old striker who has spent seven years with Madrid, scoring 122 times in 266 matches.
Higuain's father is certainly confident that Arsenal will eventually sign his son, having said a couple of days ago: "Fortunately, I will soon be able to watch my son play in the Premier League." While his brother Nicolas said "I cannot deny that Gonzalo is now close to Arsenal."
Fellaini
Arsenal are reportedly ready to offer Everton not only a healthy sum of cash in the region of £17 million, but also their young Welsh midfielder, Aaron Ramsey in a player-plus-cash deal for Marouane Fellaini. This is in response to Everton's insistence that they wish to keep the Belgian 25 year-old whom they signed for £15 million in 2008 and Arsenal's hesitance to reach the £24 million release clause written into his contract.
However, Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has said of Fellaini: "I have to say he has given me every indication he doesn't want to go."
Marchetti
Arsenal's search for an experienced, solid goalkeeper has led them to Lazio's 30 year-old Italian goalkeeper Federico Marchetti, who has been linked to Arsenal in recent days. Rumours of their interest in the Brazilian goalkeeper, Julio Cesar of QPR have died down of late, their latest apparent target has also moved to kill talk of his departure from Italy, saying: "I know nothing about Arsenal. I'm having a holiday and only thinking about relaxing."
Capoue
Arsenal remain interested in 24 year-old defensive midfielder Etienne Capoue of Toulouse. The Frenchman has expressed his desire to leave Ligue 1: "I feel it is the moment to leave, to play in big competitions," and will cost around £8.5 million, having two years left on his current contract. Inter Milan also hold an interest in the midfielder according to reports, so Arsenal may face a battle for his signature.
