Isco and Michu, the surprise packages of 2012
If last season saw Isco hit Spanish football’s big time, then this season has seen him confirmed as an exceptionally talented footballer with a great future ahead of him in Spanish football.
Named as the European under-21 player of the year two weeks ago (Golden Boy Award), the Malaga player easily won the poll to choose the revelation player of the year. With 52.5% of the votes, Isco put distance between himself and the rest of the chasing pack. Betis’ Beñat came in second place with 14.8% of the votes and the top three was rounded off by Barcelona’s Tello, who took 10.1% of the votes.
If everything goes to plan, Michu is set to be called up to Del Bosque’s squad for Spain’s game against Uruguay on 6th February in Qatar. That decision looks to have full backing based on an online poll. The Swansea striker received 33.8% of the votes for the best overseas-based Spanish player. David Silva followed in second place and Juan Mata was third, sealing a Premier League top three.
For MARCA.com readers, Ibrahimovic is the best overseas-based player. The Swede took 22.5% of the votes, followed by Pirlo with 16.8% and Van Persie with 14.7%.
